Westfield – Mary E. Mahon, 96, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, December 7, 2019. Born in Summit to William and Ellen Mahon, she was the second of nine children and attended Our Lady of Good Council School in Newark, where the family resided.

Mary worked as a tax processor and switchboard operator for 24 years, earning the nickname among her family as the "Voice of South Orange" for her long-term service in the village's Town Hall. She also volunteered for many years with the Essex and Union County Election Polling offices.
Throughout her long and spirited life, Mary enjoyed playing church bingo, making regular trips to play the slots in Atlantic City, and spending time with her large extended family in the Poconos and at annual Mahon gatherings. She loved spending summers with her family on the sandy shores of Wildwood, where she always carried rolls of quarters to give her grandchildren for boardwalk games after stuffing them with ice cream sandwiches on the beach.
Mary is survived by her devoted daughter and caregiver, Linda Flynn; her son-in-law, Tim; her beloved grandchildren, Tim (Jennifer), Dan (Leah) and Jennifer (Pete); her sisters, Agnes and Anna; as well as many adored cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Ave., Westfield on Friday, Dec. 13th from 2-6PM. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, Dec. 14that 10AM at Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Westfield Ave., Westfield. Interment will follow at St. Teresa’s Cemetery in Summit.
