Mary Elizabeth Adams, 82, a longtime resident of Garwood, passed away Monday, February 18, 2019 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. Born and raised in Jersey City, she had previously lived in Garwood, South Plainfield, Plainfield and Surfside Beach, South Carolina.
Mary was a graduate of St. Dominick’s in Jersey City where she played basketball. After receiving her nursing degree, she was employed as a registered nurse at JFK Medical Center for many years before retiring. She had also worked as a private duty nurse in South Carolina.
In her spare time, she enjoyed researching genealogy and spending time in the Poconos.
She was predeceased by her husband, Richard, who died in 2004; her sons, Richard, Jr. and Kevin; her parents, Vincent and Dorothea Nievelt; and her daughter-in-law Corinne. Surviving are her daughters, Eileen Buccino (Robert), Patty Wilcox (Kevin), Diane Deschaine, Sue Spiridigliozzi (John) and her sons, Michael Adams (Judy) and Scott Adams (Theresa); her sister, Eileen Kennedy (Bill); 17 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Ave., Westfield, on Sunday February 24th from 2 PM to 5 PM. The funeral begin at the funeral home on Monday at 9 AM followed by a 10 AM funeral Mass at The Church of St. Anne in Garwood. Entombment will follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia.
